Our next door neighbour is Vestfyns Hjemstavnsgård. A lovely museum, showing authentic living in 1800’s Denmark. Hjemstavnsgården (meaning ‘The Homestead’) is the perfect spot for campers to get real information about how life in Denmark used to be.
When driving or biking around fyn, you will notice the many thatched cottages with timber framing. When visiting Vestfyns Hjemstavnsgård, you get the opportunity to look inside one of these fascinating buildings.
You can explore the main house, showcasing the how a house would be furnished and lived in. Or you can enjoy a walk around the apple-garden, enjoy the forrest or have a look in the ould watchmakers building where you can also find the collection of old toys.
If you are planning an event, they even have a “kaffestue” – a room for rent with tables, chairs and a big collection of the danish “madam blå” (a classic danish, blue set of tableware etc. made of metal) set in the old pigsty.
Vestfyns Hjemstavnsgård is driven entirely by volunteers.
